I'm Joanie. Most days you can find me reading rhyming books to my girls or working in my home studio with all the podcasts. I'm known for my laugh and my many odd jobs before this one. I'm a city-dweller, ex-rodeo rider, reader of novels, and grower of seedlings and children. I love to learn, like anything, more than anything.
And out of this great love to learn from, raise, and enjoy people, I learned to take pictures. The kind you'll show your children as they grow up. You'll hang them on the walls of your first home, above the fold-out couch. You'll tuck them beside your bed. You'll store them on your laptop, your Instagram, and send them in texts and Christmas cards. They'll be the online world's first introduction to you.
Photographs are an heirloom, a story, a five-hundredth of a second you'll hold in your hands. These are the kind of photos that burst with laughter and hope and spirit. The best adventures in our lives are often in the form of relationships. As powerful as trekking the world is, and I hope to do this for the rest of my life, I have found that we are surrounded with (and embody) stories that connect us to this world. Photographs are a way of sharing those stories beautifully and vividly — and especially remembering those stories later in our own lives.
In addition to camera work, I also write and occasionally teach. I am super lucky to work with passionate people through their commitment and marriage, growing families, and building businesses that connect their fellow human beings.
